For this coming season Burton have subdivided their line into specific categories. The first category is Contact. These boards are aimed at riders wanting a board for jibbing and man made terrain riding. The first model in the Contact series is the new Jussi pro model. With superflyII core and lite tri-ax weave fibreglass, this board sits atop the Contact series and is aimed at riders wanting top performance for the new style of riding.
The Dominant gives an easier ride than the Jussi. The Biax weave structural layers are reinforced with a Carbon I-Beam to increase the snap and response. The new progression base combines two grades of p-tex, a harder grade down the edges which contains an additive more expensive than gold and a softer grade down the middle.
The Troop offers women and smaller riders all the performance needed in a progressive freestyle board. Tri-ax weave fibreglass and superflyII core gives a responsive ride. The new extruded indium base gives low maintenance but with superb glide due to the cooling properties of the indium impregnated into the base.
The next series of boards are Universal feel, these are the do anything go anywhere freestyle/freeride boards of the range.
Starting these off are the punch and chopper, these are the kids and youth boards of the range. The Punch offers a full size range for smaller lighter riders, ranging from 129-145 in size. New in this year is the Shaun White pro model, which gives a more responsive ride than the rest of the punch series. The Chopper's are aimed at small kids with a size range from 99-125cm.
The top of the adult range of universal boards is the BMC, identical to last years model the BMC combines all the Burton know how into one board. The EGD dragonfly core is duel wrapped with tri-ax weave fibreglass and reinforced with a carbon I-beam to increase snap and response. The sintered Indium base has indium integrated into the base material, this absorbs heat generated over the base, which gives a faster glide. Torsionally stiff the BMC is ideal for good riders looking for all mountain performance.
New for 2000-2001 is the Michi Albin pro model, again using the super fast indium base, but combined with SuperflyII core and the lite triax weave fibreglass. This board is ideal for good riders looking for all mountain freestyle performance.
The new Rippey remains pretty much the same as last year but reverts back to Jim Rippey's tattoo style of board graphic. (see leaping panther board).
Next up are the work horses of the range, the Custom, Canyon and Feelgood, essentially the same board, the Custom is the do anything, go anywhere board of the range, super metal effect graphics and legendary performance make this board one of the classic boards of all time. The Canyon is really a wider Custom for larger footed riders, whilst the Feelgood is a Custom with a female specific shape and flex. All use the Superfly II core with Carbon I.Beam, tri-ax weave fibreglass and sintered base, in addition all three use the Duelzone EGD core.
Next up comes the Floater and Motion, again the same boards but in a standard width (Motion) and Wide (Floater). Aimed at beginner to good intermediate these boards are easy to ride, with a medium stiffness flex they give a forgiving ride ideal for improving your riding. Superfly core and tri-ax weave fibreglass give a snappy ride for all mountain performance. The new Indium extruded base gives increased speed over the standard extruded base materials.
The Bullet, Clash and feather are aimed at riders looking to buy their first board. The full-length wood core and bi-ax weave fibreglass give a forgiving ride that is easy to progress your riding abilities on. The Bullet is aimed at riders with larger feet, whilst the Clash is for everybody and the feather for female riders.
Taking a step up from the LTR programme (Learn to ride) comes the Cruzer as the entry-level board in the range. This board is super easy to ride, but will only let you progress your riding up to a pretty basic level, therefore it is ideal for riders who do very little riding. If you want a board to progress on, get the Clash.
The next series of boards are the Power feel range, these can be classed as the big mountain series for freeriders looking for solid performance over the whole mountain.
The Frontier is the latest development of the board inspired by Johan Ollafson. It's stiff directional flex and all mountain shape make it ideal for expert riders looking for a powerhouse of a board, available in length from 158 to 175 this board is for serious riders only.
The Cascade replaced the Supermodel last year and continues for 2001-2002. It's fully directional shape and easy to ride nature make this an ideal board for riders looking for an easy carving, all mountain board, easy to describe as the long board, for soul riders of the Burton range. Don't forget that you need to ride this board longer than normal hence it only comes in lengths ranging from 158-173. The Face offers the same design and performance of the Cascade but in a woman specific shape.
The final series of boards is the Precision range. These boards are designed for technical freestyle riding namely pike and park but will also handle most types of freeriding.
Topping the range in the Precision series is the Dragon, with a construction similar to the BMC the Dragon is aimed at technical freestylers looking for an aggressive high-end board.
New for this season is the Nicola Thost signature board, ideal for female riders looking for a technical board for aggressive riding. 155 in length the Thost uses the Indium base with a tri-ax weave fibreglass and superfly II core to give a stiff responsive flex.
Continuing from last year the new Ross Powers gains an indium base for a faster glide. Also gaining Indium bases for 2001-2002 is the Rush and Balance. These boards are ideal for the good intermediate to advanced rider looking for high-end performance without being too aggressive to ride.
Also new to the Burton range this coming season are the Split boards. These are designed to split into two and convert into cross-country ski's to access the most difficult to reach backcountry terrain. Once you have reached your destination simply clip the two halves back together and ride down. The split is available in the following models. Custom 165, Cascade 170, Face 157.
